Fundamentals of Chiropractic in Three Short Lessons

Lesson #1 Nerves - Our Master System. A) Nerves go everywhere, even into the most remote and far-distant areas of the body. B) Through nerve impulses, our nervous system - the master system - monitors, integrates, directs, modifies, and unifies the countless functions of the body's systems, organs, and glands. C) Ideally, nerve impulses flow smoothly and harmoniously, providing a health momentum.

Lesson #2 Pinched Nerves Destroy Health. A) Nerves fan out from the spinal cord and exit between vertebrae which are stacked around the spinal cord and protect it. B) If one or more of the vertebrae become misaligned (spinal subluxation), the nerves may get "pinched", thus altering the nerves' normal impulses and functions. C) This pinching effect may bring on pain and disease conditions not only in the back, but also in other body parts, organs and glands served by the affected nerves.

Lesson #3 Chiropractic Care. A) Spinal subluxations (misaligned vertebrae) must be realigned so that normal nerve impulses can resume. It is the chiropractor's responsibility to realign vertebrae into their correct positions. These treatments are called chiropractic adjustments. B) Many chiropractic doctors utilize other therapies as well, including heat, cold, traction and muscle stimulation, to name a few. Such therapies tend to speed up the healing process and improve spinal flexibility, strength, and stability. C) Once the vertebrae are realigned and the associated tissue derangements corrected, normal nerve impulses resume and direct the body's own healing powers. D) The human body can often rid itself of pain and disease when normal nerve function is established through chiropractic adjustments.
